First off, a sincere THANK YOU for helping make our annual car display for the men & women of the Homestead Air Force base, such a wonderful day. In past shows, you have been generous with your time and effort in making this a day we all enjoy, and we are looking forward to seeing all of you again, along with the beautiful machines you bring down.
The date of the show this year is March 1, a UTA weekend, where everyone who is part of the base is required to be present. Making the day even better is that this will also be a “family” weekend where airmen can have their families come on the base to enjoy seeing what they do and how vitally important their jobs are, meaning there should be a LOT of people coming to look at your cars. The world of hot cars and hot jets is a “mutual admiration,” so please take the time to greet each visitor and point out what is special with your car.
If coming down the Turnpike ( probably easiest/fastest ), take the Tallahassee exit heading towards the Speedway, and turn left onto Biscayne Drive. At traffic circle, follow road to right and then check in at building on the right, just before the gate that leads onto the base.
Should you be coming down US1, take SW 112 Ave southbound to SW 268 St. ( Moody Drive), turn right and at SW 127 Ave turn left, which will lead you directly to main gate.
We will be preparing a “spread sheet” with confirmation of your attendance and will need details of the car you’re bringing, along with driver license info for each person in your car.
This is MANDATORY for security clearance, and when you physically go into the visitor building to collect you passes, you will also be required to show your SS number.
Doing this ahead of time will greatly reduce your waiting time, so please get this info to the base ASAP.
The base needs all info at least one week prior to the show. A base contact will be provided once confirmations go out.
First and foremost, Please keep in mind we are the guests on an active military base, so DO NOT just go driving around.
There will be signage for directions to the parking apron where all cars will be staged very close to the active runway, but if you somehow DO get lost, just stop and someone will help you.
Please also keep in mind the speed limits on the base ( 25 MPH !!) – the base police DO give out tickets for speeding!
Last, NO ALCOHOL, NO GUNS in any cars!
The parking of our cars will be, ideally random around one of the Mako Squadron F-16’s, so photography should be amazing!
The show area is HUGE, so please make use of the space, giving LOTS of room between you car and the cars nearby, and possibly lean on us to suggest spots and different angles to park at.
Also note that drones are NOT allowed to fly on base!
There won’t be any specific meeting time this year but if we shoot for having most/all vehicles parked by 10:00 am that would be great! Feel free to get there any time between 8:30 – 10:00 am, so that you’re not standing waiting in a lineup for your clearance passes, and then come out to the apron to park. The earlier you get there the better. Flights will be landing around 11 AM
There IS a BX store located on the right side of the road that you’ll be on leading to the area of setup, where you’ll be able to buy food & drink ( and fuel if necessary..), but the base is setting up a barbeque tent right where we’ll all be. And yes, porta potties are being brought there as well.
And getting to the most exciting part for all of us…….the pilots will try to schedule their usual incredible mini air show for us, when they return from their daily missions. If you haven’t been part of a previous show, then hang on as afterburner “touch & go” flying is something you’ll never forget!
Lastly, lets make this a special day of giving to our military! As you meet them, you’ll be impressed by how wonderful and giving they are. This is a day FOR THEM, and it’s our honor to be able to say THANK YOU for what you do!
