After regaining our composure, we continued on and came across another stunner: a Backdraft Racing Shelby Cobra replica. This car was oozing quality. The fit and finish were top notch all over. We thought it was another Shelby until we saw the details of the Backdraft Racing touches.
Okay, so pictures cannot and will not do this car justice. Maybe it’s because they don’t really give you an idea of how massive this thing is. This is another mystery car. We referred to it as “The Boat-Car Thing” while we were shooting it. Turns out this monster is a 1950 Vanderbundt Speedster.
Okay. I’ve still never heard of it. Well, that’s because it’s completely custom. It started its life as a 1950 Seagrave Firetruck that served in Miami Beach. Well, now we know why this thing is massive, and even better, it’s a Florida native! It gets its styling from an Auburn Boattail Speedster but on roids.
The “boattail” term is taken very literally with a rich mahogany wood tail that one would normally find on a boat. This is because the owner had the tail custom built by CF Boatworks! We were in awe of such beautiful craftsmanship. You can tell that nothing but love was poured into this project.
As we made our way around (again), we came across a really nice 1923 Ford T Bucket – the classic hot rod platform. As you can see, it had all the hot rod trimmings.
Tons of detail work in this car. The striping was done beautifully, and the skull placement is top notch!
Another classic, heavily modded chassis, is the 1953 Chevy Truck with a bunch of skulls thrown in for good measure.
